Who we are!?

Broad Horizons Theatre Company is jointly owned and run by Judi Daykin and Rhett Davies. Over the years they have both worked on hundreds of different productions with professional, amateur and youth companies. Their combined talents enable them to cover almost every aspect of managing a theatre company.

Judi Daykin

After years in the Computer industry, Judi turned to professional acting after training at the Drama Studio London in 2000/01.

Judi’s first acting work came when she was lucky enough to get involved with Summer Repertory for the Bridge Theatre Company. She stayed with them for five years at Sheringham Little Theatre and the Auden Theatre in Holt, playing everything from farce to classic roles, as well as singing in the musical.

Since then she has played goodies and baddies in Panto, leading roles in regional tours for Transaction Theatre Company and other small companies. Judi and her partner Rhett founded Broad Horizons to promote their own regional tours and lunchtime events. Summer 2007 saw her working with Stephen Fry, Mel Smith and Matthew Kelly in Twelfth Night at Houghton Hall for the Norwich Theatre Royal 250 appeal. Judi has also played small TV roles for Capriol Films and ITV’s Kingdom. She is currently starring in a corporate video for the DVLC – showing in their offices all over the country!

Judi also began directing in the theatre soon after leaving DSL. As well as directing some of Broad Horizons lunchtime shows, she directs regularly for the adult company at Maddermarket Theatre in Norwich, as well directing some of their youth theatre productions. She has even turned her talents to directing Pantomime.

Recently folk music has come to play a large part in Judi’s life. She is a member of Norwich Folk Club and a regular guest singer for them. She has often included folk songs in many of her productions and is devising two new shows combining her singing and story telling talents. Judi is also an experienced workshop leader, specialising in directing youth group productions and Shakespeare workshops, as well site or project specific improvised dramas.

Rhett Davies

Rhett has been directing and designing for the professional stage since 1995. He has worked with Bridge Theatre Company on their summer rep seasons in North Norfolk, with Transactions Theatre Company and Loose Cannon on their many tours. He was also joint owner of WD50 Theatre Company, which toured the country with I Ought to be in Pictures, ending with a short run at the Pentameters Theatre in Hampstead.

Rhett is full-time Resident Stage Manager for the Maddermarket Theatre in Norwich, where he also occasionally directs shows and designs sets. He is responsible for stage managing, sound effects and lighting for in house shows, as well visiting companies on one-night stands that are often musical groups of a large variety of styles.
